ANIMATION

Here are some of the latest developments at DNA Pixels.

We hope you enjoy them as much as we did developing them!

DNA Pixels Demoreel

This demoreel gives an overview of DNA Pixels' work. You can view the animations in detail below.

Enjoy!

The Revenge

Have you ever thought about how much punch a boxing bag takes? What if it could take revenge? See what happens when it does that on a famous boxer...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jump

Watch this guy's predicament as he sings his heart out!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whale Shark

We did a rather stunning demonstration of whale sharks for a potential movie that is in the pipeline. The animation includes the optical effects of the water ripples on the fish and environment.

VUKA!

This was our first-ever production... from start-up to the TOP 10 FINALISTS! This was broadcasted on DSTV for the duration of 2007.

The VUKA! awards is open to all South Africans who wish to make a Public Service Announcement (PSA):
*for the benefit of the community
*at no cost
*on behalf of any NGO or non-profit organisation

Microlight Fly-Past

See and hear (in stereo!) this microlight flying past.

This animation was done to visualise the microlight's paint scheme - therefore the reason for the interesting camera angles: to see more of the design!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UFO

An alien came to visit us! Unfortunately his UFO had engine problems.

An example of compositing animation onto film footage using move matching.

Cloth test

Blender's algorithms are not yet optimised for modelling cloth, but we played around with the soft body parameters and managed to create quite realistic cloth in this test.

Make sure you have your speakers on loud to catch the rhythm!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Electric Razor

Can you distinguish between reality and animation?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cowboy

Combining animations with live footage

See a cowboy shoot it out in a scene where the background is a photograph. Take careful note of how he - and especially his shadows - combine so smoothly with the photograph that you cannot tell where the photograph begins or ends!

Baby Orangutan juggles 3 balls

Body text: Can you believe that a baby Orangutan can juggle 3 balls!? (You don't have to, because this is an animation :-)

While researching the animation, I learnt that Orangutans have a very peculiar non-symmetrical way of walking, where they swing their one hind foot between the other and its opposing front hand. They nearly walk sideways like a crab!
